I have been listening to all the conference talks on my ipod and one particular talk by Pres. Uchtdorf at the priesthood session really jumped out at me. It was on patience and I decided to use it as FHE tonight. At the beginning of the talk, he tells a story about a study done involving 4 year olds and marshmallows. The kids are told that they can eat 1 marshmallow now or wait 15 mins and have 2. I decided to do the same study on my family. At the beginning of our lesson I put out a plate of treats with enough for each person to have 1. Then I told them that they were welcome to eat their treat now or wait until the end of FHE and have 2. I kept that plate on the table to tempt everyone while we took turns reading parts of the talk I had highlighted. I would have read the whole thing, but I didn't think that would go over well with my 8 year old. I mostly wanted to get in the parts that would apply to him and help him think about how he could be more patient. At the end of the lesson, I read the story about the 4 year olds and marshmallows. Then we payed a board game. I wanted to pick a game that required patience, but DH had to leave for work so we had to do something quick. I think Pres. Uchtdorf's stories about his own experiences really made an impression on DS. It turned out to be a pretty good lesson.
