Thought this would be a good idea, since Easter is this coming weekend!
What are your ideas for teaching a Family Home Evening lesson on Easter?
We had our Easter family home evening yesterday at my SIL's house. Our family was in charge of the lesson and I gave it. I started by telling everyone that the focus of our sacrament meeting had been about Easter and one of the speakers had mentioned that Easter should be the most celebrated holiday that we have. We should rejoice and be grateful for Easter. It is the celebration of the main reason why we come to Earth! Because of the atonement and the resurrection we are able to return to our Heavenly Father and have eternal lives in our bodies. I then read part of president Hinckleys talk from a conference address he gave that happened to be on and Easter Sunday....here is the link....http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=4f947cf34f40c010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____&vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD....
after I shared the part that I wanted to share I shared my testimony and gratitude for my knowledge of resurrection, especially with the trials that we have experienced over this past year. I am so grateful to know that Bella is not lost to us and that all of our family that have past or that will pass on to the next life are not lost to us, that they are with us still and will be with us forever...in a literal way, through the power of resurrection, and that we celebrate that gift on Easter. We then watched this short clip on youtube...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpFhS0dAduc...
and then my husband and I shared a few more thoughts about how the Jesus didn't just take upon Himself the pain of our sins but He took upon Himself all of the suffering that we would ever suffer, that we never need to feel alone when we are going through trials, that when we are promised that we will never be given more than we can bear that it doesn't mean that we have to bear it alone...it means that when it becomes too much for us to bear alone that Jesus steps in and lifts us and eases the burden and makes it possible for us to carry on. We ended by challenging everyone to focus this coming week on keeping Christ in their hearts and minds and Easter approaches. Instead of thinking of Easter baskets and chocolate bunnies to focus more on the real meaning of Easter and the sacredness and the joy that we should be feeling on this holiday.
anyway, that's what we did.
Very beautiful, Sandra.
