Back to school clothes shopping

DD 5 will start kindergarten this year. I know she is excited. DH and I agreed DD would pick out a three new outfits and a new pair of shoes and that is it. We will get more clothes as she grows. DD has a ton of clothes and I really want to wait.
How is everyone else getting ready for the school year?

Kindergarten is so exciting (and tough on us moms!!). We get off cheaply here b/c our public schools require uniforms (polo shirt and khaki bottoms).
When does your DD start? School started last Wednesday here- summer went quick!

We live in Texas, so its not cooling off anytime soon here. We went out last weekend and let her pick out some new stuff, we ended up getting 3 new shirts, one pair of lightweight pants, a skirt and a pair of longer shorts and a few headbands. She also got a new pair tennis shoes and dress shoes as all she had was a pair of sandles and older tennis shoes. We tend to wait until October to do more clothes shopping, one fall stuff is going on sale, and two they don't really need a ton of new stuff yet. We try and also stick with stuff she can easily mix and match into a lot of different outfits, adding sweaters, different tights, etc.
