Do you let your kiddos pick out their own outfits each day?  Does it matter where you are going? What they will be doing?  When do you step in and pick their clothing for them?

I would love it if Madison would dress herself.  Its a power struggle most days, either she wants me to dress her, or she wants to dress herself completely and I never know til she wakes up what her mood will be.  Some days she's very agreeable to what I pick out for her, other days she wants to pick it out herself.  If she wants to pick it out I let her, I am not up for a power struggle about clothes at this age.  If she doesn't match, she wears mismatched socks (which happens just about every day now), oh well.

Oh, that would be frustrating! It sounds like she sure does keep you on your toes. Landon is in a phase now where he wants to do everything by himself. His outfits are... hysterical... to put it nicely and he wants to wear his cowboy boots with everything... shorts included. I've just given up on it during the summer but I may step in a bit when he gets back to pre-k next week. I'll just try to steer him towards pieces that at least match!

Letting them pick their own outfir day in and day out would be a little too much, but I'd not discourage them. A little talking and cajoling them if I find the outfit they picked isn't appropriate for the occassion, is what I'd do. Not very easy though.

Nope not going to happen unless its the weekend :) My oldest has if he wants to go outside and still in PJ he will go upstairs tear apart the dresser and find something and maybe half the time it matches even less its appropriate. Really its 80 out you need a LONG sleeve top and shorts?!?! He is 10

Now my 4 year old won't have much of a say once school starts since he has a uniform, but both will ask if there is a shirt they want to wear. They also protest but sometimes you have to wear something other then pull on pants and tshirt!!

My middle guy, also 10, sounds like your oldest. I cannot get that kid to pick appropriate clothing to save my life. Middle of summer and he wanted to wear sweats and long sleeved shirts. Crazy kid!
