Five year old writing on walls

Tonight when I put my 5 year old to bed I noticed that she had written on her wall. This isn't the first time I have been noticing her writing on other things also. I scolded her and taped up her drawing drawer shut and made her wash off the wall. She also said to me "are you going to give me away because I did something wrong" That killed me I have no idea where she got that from or why she would even think that. I am 10 weeks pregnant maybe that is why she is acting the way she is, but she is so excited about the baby. When we told her she went over to her toy box and started pulling toys to put aside for the baby. I am just not sure what to do. Any advice??

I think you should not be too harsh with her - she's experiencing something new in her life (a new sibling) and maybe writing on the wall is a way to express her anger, jealousy, feel that the attention given to her for 5 years is shifting to someone else..

I would say, next time she writes on the wall, try to talk to her and ask her about what she feels and why she's doing it.

Tell her that what she draws is realy nice (compliment instead of reprimand) but with let her know in a firm tone that this is not acceptable.

You can come up with an idea with her to stick some long drawing sheet on the wall of her bedroom next to her
