First of all, I do not like the new format at all!!!!

OK, back to the note...

All of the parents were asked to put together a "safety bag" for their kids in case of an emergency. We needed to put things in it like bottled water, individually wrapped (non-perishable) snacks, flashlights, extra diapers and wipes (the school does provide them normally), etc., in case they have to evacuate or lock down and seal the building. They have enough food on-hand for about 3 days (they also provide the kids' meals and snacks, so they have a full kitchen, etc.). I know it's a good thing to have them prepared, but it honestly scares the crap out of me.

Just wondering if anyone else has gotten anything similar from their schools.

No, I haven't heard of that but it's great to see them so prepared! I'm sure that will help in case of emergencies.

Janet =)

PS The new format is not that bad once you get to playing around with it. =) Good luck!

We live in earthquake country, so we do this every year. We include snacks, canned juice, and a "space blanket" (one of those little plastic ones that you find in camping first aid kits, not the big NASA ones). It's also nice to put in a note saying that Mom and Dad will be there as soon as they can, and a family picture.

The first time I made one of the kits I was totally freaked out by the idea of being separated from DS in an emergency, but now it's just comforting to know that the people at school have thought it through and have a plan for "sheltering in place."

All best,

Laura O.
