Happy to be Back on-line!

I have not been able to sign in to iVillage for about a month now. I was going through withdrawals! lol.

Because I've been gone so long I thought I'd give an update:

School has started and the kids are both doing well. Lindsay got a great teacher. She is nice, but then all the first grade teachers are nice at our school. She has high expectations but she stays calm regardless of what the kids are doing in the class. The kids know what they are suppose to do and what she expects because she is very clear with them. She seems to get what is appropriate for this age as well as how we expect them to behave. She has taught a lot of different grades so she is able to challenge the kids who need it while helping those who are having trouble. Her organization and calmness are exactly what Lindsay needs at school. I've already seen growth in Lindsay's ability to handle frustration when things don't work out the way she expects. She is finally learning to play games because they are fun not to win them.

Philip has a great teacher as well but then our school is very fortunate to have a very strong 5th grade team. This is good because the 5th graders rotate for Science, Math and Social Studies/History. He's been doing well and has shown improvement in his organizational skills that have me hopeful that the transition to middle school will be easier on him.

As for me, I've been busy doing volunteer work at the school. I am chairing the Fall raffle and I'm in my crunch time right now (ticket packets go home on Wednesday so need to have them all put together by Tuesday). I am a grade level coordinator for the art program the school uses. Its completely parent run. I've never done it before so I'm learning as I go. I help out in the class room and am a Science Helper for the 5th grade classes. Then I've started tutoring a couple of 2nd graders in reading. One of them is a girl I tutored last year and I love seeing how far she has come. She isn't where she should be but she is a lot further than where she was even at the end of last year. I think it might be starting to click for her. Oh and then I am co-leading a Girl Scouts Daisy troop (k and 1st grade). I only agreed to do it because we are working as a team.

I am getting all of that done but falling back on my diary/pda to keep me straight on where I need to be and what I need done.

How about everyone else give an update?
