I talked to Dylan's dr

and it appears that Dylan does have encopreres (sp?). I'll start the mineral oil and metamucil on Wed, since I'll keep him home till the impaction passes. I think it'll be too hard for him to handle that one at school. His dr said that sometimes the urge to pass the impaction is so strong they can't get to the toilet at school fast enough.

We both think this is caused by stress and that when things are beyond his control, he tries to control his use of the toilet. Even though I work out of the home, my insanely busy time is the from mid-March till April 15 (for those that don't know - I do income taxes). I'm not around a lot and when I am I'm tired and cranky. Last spring he had a lot of urine accidents.

I've been wanting to end my practice for a couple of years now, but we need the income I bring in. And I really love being home and for most of the year I am. No other job would let me have the time I have with our kids and our home. But, it seems to cause Mike, Dylan and Sally sooo much grief. Yikes, I'm confused and first things first. I nned to get my son cleaned out and regular again. And finish umptey ump tax returns.Such is life. It could be worse.

I'm sorry you all are going through this, but at least you were able to find out what the problem is. I hope he will be feeling much better soon. Don't stress out too much over your job situation either. Once the season passes everything will be back to normal. I would think that as the kids get older they will understand why mommy is so busy (even if they don't like it too much!)

HUGE (((((( hugs )))))) to you all!

And check off the first thing on the list. You know what the problem is. Knowing what the problem is and how to address it must be a big relief in itself. Plus, you're half way through that busy period, so the end is in sight.

I've got no first hand knowledge of encopresis, however I understand that when you become backed up you want to be sure that it doesn't hurt to void the accumulated mass. Things need to be soft so the BM doesn't hurt. Otherwise you can set up a vicious cycle. It hurts to poop so you withold which makes it bigger and harder so it hurts the next time, etc.

I encourage you to check in on the support board or talk with Emily (who responded to your last post with an e-mail addy). I 'know' Emily from other boards and met her last summer. Her BTDT experience could be a blessing.

Sending you <<<<< get through this and the tax season >>>>>> easily vibes.

More (((((( hugs ))))))

I feel for you since my son also has encorpresis. He was diagnosed last year (Sept) and we see a Pedi GI every couple of months. He is also on the prescription Miralax. He does not withhold anymore but he refuses to use the toilet to poop so he uses a diaper. I am currently trying to get out of that and on to the toilet. It has been a long hard battle and from the advice I hear on another board it takes a while to overcome. I just hope we can get it under control since he starts school in the fall. Wishing you luck and if you need anything please let me know my addy is navywf757@hotmail.com

Hugs to Dylan and you. At least knowing the problem allows you to deal with a "known." Having just finished our taxes, I can just imagine how stressful things are for you. A girlfriend's DH is a CPA & use to do personal taxes, he had enough a couple yrs ago & now works on business taxes. Not that that is measurably better, LOL.

Positive thoughts, Ang

Poor Dylan! It must be somewhat relieving to have a diagnosis though. Hope this gets better soon. It is almost April 15- not much longer for you.

Oh, Sarah, I hope these issues pass quickly for both of you: Dylan's BMs and your tax returns.

Many hugs to you,

Karen
