Leapfrog leap pad is it worth it?

DH wants to get DD a leapfrog leap pad for Christmas. Its $100. Is it worth it or is it just another toy? Anyone have one?

We do not have one but I've been thinking about getting one for my son as well.

My 4 year old got the Leapster last year and she plays with it sporadically. I think she needs more games, when she first got it she was a bit frustrated with a lot of the games not being quite at her level. I saw this at the store, and she and my 2 year old are always stealing my iPad and I was thinking about researching it to see if it was worth it. Though I may have to get 2 since they can't share anything... I'd be interested to hear from anyone else that has one also.

In my experience, they're not long-term toys. They tend to suck the kids' brains out for a few days, then they get bored and move on. I've got movers, though; so your mileage may vary.

Honestly, if the ipads weren't so darned expensive, I'd get them both one. They have so much versatility, between the downloadable apps, to the books, to the shows and music on them. Even if just for trips in the car.

I rather get an ipad too but the cost is way out of our affordability and I don't think it can stand the abuse. We are going to wait.

I agree on you with the affordablity....and the durability. I have a very smart 5 yr old and a 3 yr old and they fight over EVERYTHING. $200 is way more than we can afford to spend on only 2 gifts this year, especially since we have 2 older children to buy for as well. Not just that but my kids have a hard time taking care of their movies so I don't see those lasting too long. I have found a much better tol for my children. It's a website that helps with reading, spelling , word pronunciation, and word to picture recognition. it's called www.starfall.com and my 5 yr old just loves it. I think if the items weren't so expesive it might be worth it but I think this year we will have to stick to something a bit more affordable and much more durable.
