Any ideas on how to keep an almost 5 year old asleep at night? My son woke me up 5 times throughout the night. No nightmares, not sleep walking just awake. This mommy is tired. Frown

Does he still take  a nap during the day at all?  If so, you may need to cut it out now, he may not be as tired and is waking up.  Are there any unusual noises that are waking him, or is it too quiet in the house and so any little noise wakes him?  What happens when he wakes up, does he go to the bathroom, want a drink, want to cuddle?  Does he share a room with a sibling?  What time is his normal bedtime, what times does he wake up, or get woken up in the mornings?

Is this a new thing or has he always been a bad sleeper? Anything new in his routine or any other new things. My kids go through stages, sometimes its a growth spurt, sometimes something is on their mind and they just don't how to express it. Is he just getting up seeing you or going to the bathroom or asking for a drink?

I know around 5 my oldest was ready to stop napping but his day care wasnt. When he started school it was "rest" time but day was adminet he HAD to nap for an hour and we were like um if he doesn't need it he doesn't need it because then he was up late at night. He is also my anxious child so we go through phases where something bothers him and he gets up but usually its I had a nightmare or I am scared.

if its recent, and you live in colder weather, is it possible the heat is bothering him. I get SO dry this time of year, wake up with cotten mouth. Both my kids have issues if its too quiet or too loud so we use white noise and that helps with the dryness too.

Many people are not a fan but to be honest, first time kid gets up its lie down with mom. DH goes to bed later so usually its just me and mom snuggle time cures whatever. With my oldest he can't sleep with both of us so I usually sit with him until he goes back out and I go in  his room, my youngest can still fit with both of us. I really think sometimes they just need that extra attention and comfort and it beats the countless knocks on my door...
