OK to Pee in Public?

It's a given: Little boys -- especially ones who are potty training -- like to pee outside. My young boys have an insatiable desire to water the plants on our lawn. My crafty older son will dart outside and announce that he has "an emergency" and start spraying. I'll concede that peeing outside can be fun (reference my college years here) but how old is too old?

Where do you stand on this issue? Are you okay with your kiddos going to the bathroom outside? If so, at what age should they stop?

During baseball season we spend MANY nights at a park. Now usually the city has port a potties (oh I know gross) For some reason start of this season only 2 parks had them. Well 2 hour games or practices and large amounts of water/gatorade and little bladders...do the math. No port-a-potty in site coach points way down the park find a tree far away where we can't see you. This can prove a challenge in a busy park. Had to search out the excluded tree more then once with my 5 year old. He is not a fan of this public pee thing so picky too.

If there is a tree alternative of course we pick that. Sorry in todays world you just never know. Luckily my DH is very cautious about privacy so my kids are good at being discrete but was in a local park once where kid came down slide pulled down pants and peed. Mom was mortified guess they had gone camping where he was taught ok to go where and when the need arose. Like I said in the spring we do spend lots of time in the park and happy to report a month into season the city put all the port-a-potties back, which is great because some parks are not very private or big. But if there isn't another alternative they are either going to pee their pants or on a tree. One time I couldn't find a private space so just took off my jacket and blocked the view.
