hi I am new to this board, and I have a son Patrick that will be 4 September and as of the last few months I have noticed that whenever I vacuum, blowdry my hair, use the blender, lawn mower, etc. he plugs his ears and runs away or stands and yells at me to stop cause it's too loud.
From birth on he has heard these typical noises and had no problems, I am just wondering if this is a phase or should I get his ears checked? Has anyone had issues similar? There are times that I have to tell him 3 times to do something, but I figure that is just selective hearing and he's preoccupied with something else.
Any feedback would help. Thanks

Hi there,

My daughter will be 5 in November and she does the same thing. She's been doing it since she was around 2 or 3. But her development is great. She can read and she just started Kindergarten this fall. Her speech is a little unclear so I think they will probably put her in a speech class at school. She had her pre Kinder physical and hearing is fine. I forgot to bring that up to her doc but I just figured she doesn't like loud noise. It doesn't freak her out. She just covers her ears like your son does. If you're concerned, bring it up to your pedi at his next visit but I think it's fine. Good luck!

Hi,
My daughter is 4.5 and she has been doing the same thing for about a year. The doctor said it was normal. She had a fit on 4th of July- Screaming and covering her ears. She even covers them to flush the potty. It drives me crazy. She had a school hearing test today but I haven't gotten the results yet. If they come back showing something I will post it.
