My son Austen will be five in October,I am looking for a great way to show him that making good choices and listening has a positive outcome. I have thought about a few things and want to know if a Penny Jar would be a good idea. I thought that when Austen listened and made good choices and helped me, that he could put a penny in the jar. When he didn't make a good choice then he had to take a penny out. However I am not sure how many pennies he should get before he got a little reward for doing a great job. Should it be weekly to start so that he sees what happens? Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks,
Shannon

If money (penny's) is something he is interested in and wants to earn, then I think it sounds like a great idea.

The politically correct thing to do w/ behavior mod is *not* to take away ... just give for positive behavior.

I've never used a penny jar that way, so I'm not sure if it would work or how to set it up. I've used sticker charts and offered rewards once certain number of stickers had been earned. I've never taken away a sticker, just not giving one.
