I'm in the process of moving AGAIN, and I got to thinking about howmany times other people move in a lifetime. So, how many times have you moved as a child, and how many times have you moved your family? Has the experiences been helpful in any way? Have they been to a disadvatage in any way? What do you think would be the best advice you could offer someone about moving their family around?

I'd love to hear different responses to this, as a child my parents relocated me, I was in high school, it was a horrific experience for me, I never fit in, I was poked fun at, I will never ever ever do that to my kids. But to this day my dad says he doesnt care, it was the best thing he could have done for me because of the school system where we lived. Also, my best friend back there got heavy into drugs & ended up dying from an overdoes, I moved to a rural town & was not exposed to those kinds of drugs so maybe it was the best for me but as an adult I'm still not seeing it, I still long to go back.

Because of my bad experience, I am determined not to move my kids to another school but am dying to move from the house we are in. Would love to hear other experiences.

I've always moved at times I'd call "convenient", so I haven't had too much struggle really. I grew up in a small town near Minneapolis-St Paul and we moved twice (just into a different house when I was in 5th grade) but in the same town. I didn't leave until college, and from 18-20 lived in a college town in OK. After that I married DH and we moved together to our current home. We lived in an apartment when I became pregnant with DD and then bought our home (in the same city) so DD has always lived in the same house. We don't plan to move, at least not in the next 10 years or so.

WOMAN...where are you moving now???????

We only moved once as a child and it was in the same town, just to a different house..I was about 5-6. Since getting married and having kids we have moved 5 times...Emily has done fine with it. She finished her first FULL year at a school in 1st grade...other than that we moved in the middle or towards the end of the school years. She is a very outgoing and friendly gal so it never bothered her a bit. Jordan also was too little for it to affect him too much....our last move he was 2 1/2. So really don't have any advice to give as Emily is such the type that she made moving a breeze!

Emial me with the scoop though janet!

Hugs!

As a child we moved many times, but always in the same city and I only had to change schools just a few times. I stayed w/ my grandparents alot so I had a stable environment there and was able to keep in touch w/ friends without any problems. As a child I dreamt of being in a military family so that we could move to neat places all the time. I still think it would be neat, but I'm sure its hard to uproot the family.

Dh and I were in our first house for 11 years and just moved our kids for the very first time. It went ok! A lot better than I had thought. DS has mixed feelings about starting a new school this year where he doesn't know anyone tho.

So, its good-bye P.R., eh? Copy me on the email to Laura. You know I want the scoop too. ;o)

Hugs!!!

Hi! Sort of de-lurking here - I always read, but haven't posted for quite a while on this board. I also posted before under the name "bestkidsever", so that might help you remember me!

I moved 6 times during grade school, and then again to go to college. I moved once while in college, and then moved back to my home town with my then fiance(now dh). We got married, and then moved back to his hometown (my college town) and there we lived in 4 different houses in 5 years. Then we moved back AGAIN to my hometown, where we still reside, and since we have been here, we have lived in 5 different places (2 of those being with parents at one time or another). We have 3 kids, the oldest is 6.5, but he has never had a problem with the moves. In fact, all of us WANT to move again, only this time, into our "first" house, where we will hopefully stay for a LOOOONG time! :o)

My dad was in the army when i was growing up and we moved 6 times and moved 1 time after my dad retired from the army. Then i moved when i got married to my hubby to where he lived. We have moved 5 times in the course of our marriage. I have been married almost 6yrs lol. Well if its up to me which it usually isnt its up to God but i plan on moving one more time when we hopefully buy a house next yr and stay here till my kids graduate school. My daughter starts kindergarten this fall and my son is only 10months old so i plan on staying awhile lol.

I have no advice since I never moved as a child and since my kids have been born we haven't moved and don't plan on it.
