question about sunscreens

Any thoughts on the sunscreen + bug repellent? Coppertone makes one - that's the only one I've seen here at WalMart, anyway. I usually just put the sunscreen on and then spray them with some bug repellent if I think they will need it.

Last year, I got them glitter Coppertone - it was so cute on them & they loved it, which meant I didn't have to fight with them to get it on.

Hi! I agree, kids should not have Deet...so Avon's product...Bug Guard is the best..and I sell it...you should see how the people around here buy it up...and the compaign we are in right now is a sale one for the BugGuard...$4.99 a tube! Great price especially since it will be $12.00 soon:(

I just got off the phone with my son's doctor and she DOES NOT recommend deet at all. Wow...all of our news stations have been running stories about the bugs and they all say to have deet in the repellent and that is way I found one with a lot of deet. I am so glad that I called his doctor...I guess it is back to the Coppertone Bug and Sun for him.

Thanks for the great information. I'm glad to hear that it really does keep bugs away.

We use Avon's SSS bug repellent with SPF 30. I swear by this stuff.

But 19% deet is too high for kids, isn't it? I thought ped directions were 10% or under?

Hi...We used the Coppertone Bug and Sun last year and it did work fine, but you do have to apply often. I have found a new product called REPEL SUN & BUG STUFF. I found it in the camping section at Target. It works great and it contains 19.0% deet (which the Coppertone brand did not have). It is a little bit more expensive than the other though, I think we paid almost $5 for a 4 oz bottle. But it is worth the extra money. We have used it quite a lot already and it really does keep the bugs away. The sunscreen is SPF 15, but my 4 1/2 son used it and did not have any problems.

Good luck with the search and have fun in the sun (with no bug bites...LOL)

Is that the Bug&Sun lotion you're talking about? We've used it for a couple of years now, and it works well. My kids don't give me much trouble about putting it on. They are so light complected that it is pretty much part of the routine when we are getting ready to go outside. Unfortunately dh and I are not so good at remembering to re-apply when needed. Too many times we remember when they are starting to turn pink. Maybe they could come up with a glitter lotion (which I am going to look for BTW!) that fades when you need to re-apply. Maybe they do?! I'm just happy that we can finally start talking about such things again! LOL
