I need some BTDT advice on my 4 year old. She REFUSES to wright her name. I mean flat out REFUSES, she "doesn't want to" because she "doesn't feel like it" She is making a scene at school, she refuses to even attempt to do it?!?!?! She will not do it at home either. I am at a loss I have no idea what to do. I have tried taking a break and coming back to it, I tried time out and then sitting in front of it again, I have taken away tv and toys and play time, I made her sit out at the water park I am at my wits end Today I took ALL of her toys our of her room all she has is a bed and a table with her classwork turned homework sitting on it . . .
She CAN do it she did it yesterday, and after 2 hours of screaming and me telling her she was going to bed with no dinner (i fibbed thank goodness she didn't call my bluff) she did it FINE no problems so i KNOW she can do it.

ANY Ideas?!?!?!

I'm a lurker but I wanted to jump in on this one because it's something I have come to feel strongly about. I know it's not a popular opinion these days, but I do not understand the big deal. If it's a fine motor question, you can figure that out by knowing whether they can draw straight lines, corners, and circles. Otherwise, to me it's just creating a power struggle for no reason other than proving our kids are brilliant at younger and younger ages. Four is an age for pretend, art, music, science exploration, stories, etc. We're pushing them for our purposes but if they're not ready, it doesn't serve them in any way. Some kids are ready and that's great, I think they can be challenged. Others just really need to be kids. Just my two cents.
