A study just came out showing that parents that set limits on the amount of TV their children watch have children that watch less television overall.

Hi Trina,

I love the idea of using coupons for TV time!

I have always set limits on how much TV to watch during the weekdays. Now that she's 4, I'm using "TV coupons" to reward completed seatwork, chores, reading time at home or reward good behavior. It's one of 3-4 choices of rewards in my very new system. She can use 2-30 minute coupons in one day. That doesn't include any DVDs/TV shows that I might have planned on using to support current homeschooling topics (she goes to MDO and I teach during the school year. I don't extend bedtimes to use TV coupons. She has to find the time to use them after all other activities are done for the day. So usually, it's in the evening before or after dinner that she can use the coupons. We allow for plenty of outdoor play. I don't do make-up days so I make it hard to earn the privilege to watch hours of TV in one day. But, I also allow for movie nights and cartoon Saturdays (it's an American tradition) :)
