What's the going rate for a lost tooth in your house?  Has it stayed the same over the years or does the tooth fairy pay more for certain teeth/situations, etc?

I gave my 6 year old $5 for her first one, only because she had to have it pulled after being hit in the mouth by her little sister's head and it broke the tooth too close to the nerve.  She lost two the same night while we were on vacation this summer and I gave her $5 for both of them and she was disappointed.  grrr.  I have heard some people giving out as much as $10 a tooth which I think is outrageous!

Tooth fairy here is CHEAP. We did give $5 when he had to have a tooth pulled (pain and suffering, that tooth fairy is a softy for that) other then that its a $1 a tooth, but I have the 1 kid in the world who forgets about the tooth fairy. That said he is getting 3 teeth pulled in a few weeks (think tooth fairy will reimburse mom for a trip to the gift shop after)

Most of the time they got $2 per tooth. A few times they would get a $5 because the tooth fairy forgot the night before and all she had was a $5 in her wallet to go throw under the bed as the child was searching under his or her pillow for the money. lol This is what I told my children about the different amounts that kids get for teeth. I would say that the tooth fairy only has a set amount of money to give out each night. If a lot of kids lose a tooth that day then they get less and if only a few kids lose a tooth they get more. My sister would give her dd $20 per tooth so my kids must have thought that she was lucky and always lost her teeth on a slow night. lol
