David is in Kindergarten this year, and is doing fabulously. For many of you, you can remember how Joanne and I agonized over whether or not to hold him back, because he was SO young (turned 5 in Oct). However, its been an incredible year, and he is reading at at least a 1st grade level, and maybe even higher.
So, he is picked to be the classroom representative for the K spelling Bee (15 rooms of Kindergartners, 15 reps). He does very well, doesn't play around up on stage, speaks up, follows the rules, until the last 5 kids. Once they hit the last five contestants, they are out of words to use that have been studied, so they move on to a different list. AND KNOCK OUT EVERY SINGLE REMAINING ONE...The kicker? They had to go to a 2nd grade list to get the kids out. And he didn't even have a tantrum when they asked him to sit down, and he thought he'd lost.
So, the principal decided to award each of the five kids with a trophy, medal, and a dictionary, since he 'cheated' on getting them out.
We were so proud, and Joanne actually able to attend. Took a while, but got there, and wouldn't have missed it for the world.
