Hi all, I'm looking for opinions...my son's birthday is just next week and we are struggling for ideas for birthday presents for him. My husband thinks maybe we should buy him an XBox. But i question wether or not my son has the coordination to use all the buttons and if his interest will wain quickly. What do you think? Are these games too hard for a child of this age to do? I don't know anyone who has them, so I'm hoping someone here might share their experience. Thanks Suzanne

Kids do great at learning to use game systems. I don't think it will be a problem for your DS to learn how to work the controls for each game. My guys started young since *I* always loved to play video games and always had some kind of system hooked up to the TV. They LOVE it and I have to make sure to limit their game time these days.

Personally, I would get a younger child either a GameCube or a Playstation2 as opposed to an Xbox. We did a lot of soul-searching when we bought our newest system (went with a GameCube), trying to figure out what would offer the most to the most members of our family. I wanted an Xbox at first, but after looking at the available games I realized that they really aren't geared towards the younger set at all. Gamecube and Playstation2 have tons of games for the younger crowd, and a lot featuring cartoon and movie characters they know.

I say go for it, but maybe browse around Amazon or Toys R Us or something to see what games are out there that your child might like and decide which system is for your family. As I said, we went with the GameCube and haven't regretted it.

Feel free to ask any questions if you have 'em. I am a real gamer at heart!

Thank you so much for all the great information and advise. Whatever we decide, we want to make it a good decision. Those game stations are pretty pricey so we are trying to make an informed decision. You gave me some great things to think about. Thanks a bunch. Suzanne

well it all depends on the kids really. I can't speak for anyone elses child, but my own. My ds's has played our playstation since he was not quite 4. A friend of mine has older children and they have an xbox and he can play that as well. If you have several games it should keep him interrested for a long time

Well, my 5 yo doesn't have any problems playing it. But there really aren't many games he can play so if I had to recommend any systems, I'd say try gamecube or playstation. It's not that it's too advanced there just aren't many games for the younger kids.

Hi, we have an Xbox. My boys are 8 and 5 and they got one for Christmas and love it. My older child knows more but the five year old plays pretty well. I was told at a store that the gamecube has more games for kids though.
