At what age do you think it is appropriate to pierce ears? When were your ears pierced?

Hi Arryl, wow 3 holes. Sorry to hear they are a bother for you now :( Hi Critter, wow at age 12 - makes sense though if your Mom does not have pierced ears.

I have a boy and ultimately I don't know what I would about that if I had a girl. However, I was 12 when I got mine done. But then my mom doesn't actually have hers pierced.

My ODD we did at 9 months and it worked out nicely, she never played with them and we never had issues with them. We did my middle daughter's at 4 and we had a whole host of problems, she was constantly playing with them, her ears ended up turning green even though I used the nickel free sensitive earrings, and eventually we gave up and let the holes grow back. We have not done my youngest ones at all, but if I had to do it over again I would have gotten them done when they were infants, or wait until they are old enough to take care of them on their own moreso, closer to 10 maybe. I wasn't allowed to have mine done til I was 12, I had the first ones done at 12, the second holes done at 13 and then the third hole done at 15. I did not have an issue with earrings in my teens, but later in my 20's I had a lot harder time wearing anything but gold or some for extremely sensitive ears. I only wear earrings a few times a month now, and I can only wear them for a work day before they start bothering me. The only ones I wear consistently that don't bother me are a pair of diamond studs that are 14 carat while gold posts.

I have only boys but if I had girls it would not until they old enough to properly care for them. My sister did my neices at 3 and they got horribly infected and she ended up being allergic to the metal  in the earings. I was in Jr high when I got mine and my mom only caved because she talked the hair dresser into a cut I said I didn't want and she felt guilty when I hated it. I was one of the last of my friends to finally get them.

Interestly though most dress codes in school here are starting to ban all jewlery including earings.
