He still needs a nap?

Man, I'm frustrated!  My son just turned 5 and goes to pre-k 3 days per week.  The days he doesn't have time for a nap, he is just a bear in the afternoons/evenings.  Last night he had a total breakdown about 6pm and I know it was because he was just tired.

Anyone else have a kiddo that still has a nap at this age?  The main issue with the napping is that when he does take one, he's up either WAY late or up WAY early (like 4am) in the morning. Not sure how to break this cycle!

I completely sympathize ! I am a nanny for a 2 and almost 4 year old. The older one has similar issues.

Up until about a couple months ago, he was consistently napping 3-4 days a week, it was glorious. However, now his cycle must be changing, because he doesnt get tired until later, so we end up reading stories in bed then just do "quiet time" for 20-30 mins. Unfortunately, he has fallen asleep, but its far too late, like around 3 pm, so he'll be up too late. So, we just try to do a long period of reading stories and quiet time, even if its just him laying down talking or being fidgety, its helpful for us both !
