Pica in a 4 yr old

My husband's newphew has had Pica most of his life. He is 4. He eats paper, TP, napkins and rocks.  My SIL (his mom) seems to think its funny and doesn't correct him.   I am worried he will get a bowel obstruction from the rocks.  I asked her if she makes sure he passes them and she said no and laughed.  Should I be concerned? It is my in-laws so I am afraid to intervene.

Thanks

Hello and WELCOME to the board !!!   I didn't know what Pica was... so I googled it.  Goodness, that seems VERY serious  (and I read that it can be a precurser to mental illness) YIKES !  Has he officially been dx with Pica or is it something that has been labeled?  I am glad you spoke out to your SIL...   I think the next step is your DH... does he have a relationship with her?  if not, maybe he can talk to a family member that does have a relationship with her and have them talk to her and see the more serious side of this.
