In a previous thread I asked about bedtimes... and a lot of you were saying your kids don't go to bed until 8:30pm...

We really struggle with this at our house for a number of reasons.

Um.... no.... I don't stay up late! And anyway my DH is a big TV watcher, and I don't enjoy TV very much, so even if my kids go to bed early, it's not like I'm missing out on a lot of heartfelt conversation time at night. DH watches TV until he's tired and ready for bed.

This isn't to say that I have a nonexistent relationship with DH. Our special private couple time generally takes place on Sat. and Sun. afternoons after lunch, when the kids are just hanging around the house playing or whatever, we go to ahem "take a nap" together and that means a lot to both of us.

It is a problem in our house for sure. Of course we are in the process of moving and both being at different jobs (slightly different in DH's case since he is simply transfering to a different location within in the company but that is going to result in changes as well.) My job has seriously different hours .... 12 hour shifts and overnights. It is a good step up for me, however, I have no idea how it is going to work family schedule wise. All I know is that I work 3 days a week so hopefully that gives me more time for family in some respects and the job is significantly higher paid than my last one so some financial stress will be relieved (more so if we can sell our house but that won't happen for at least a year.) Ummmm ... dont have good solutions. DH takes a long time to get ready for bed so even that little time we would have I am often asleep or nearly so by the time he comes to bed which I am actually kind of resentful of. But after DS is in bed we generally have dinner and watch tv which isn't the best quality time but with our jobs and all it is mostly what we have energy for .... kinda sad. No good answers.
