My ds has been fully potty trained in all aspects for about 3 months. He will be 4 in Nov. Last week he started pooping in his underwear every day. He has been getting upset about it but still doing it. Is this normal and what can I do about it.

My sis used to have this problem with her dd when she was younger, though it would only happen occasionally. Her issue was that she didn't want to stop playing to go to the potty, and would think she could hold it when she couldn't. My sis started having her sit on the pot a few times a day, even if her dd said she didn't have to go.
My nephew used to do this too, but he was 6 and it was because of issues going on in his life. Unless your ds is under a lot of stress for some reason I doubt it's an issue like that. I also had a friend who's 5 yr old started pooping in his pants, but it was stress related as well (his parents were going through a divorce).
It's more likely that he's misjudging his ability to hold it. It doesn't sound like he's been potty trained long, and boys can have more difficulty mastering the potty skills. I'd start by having him sit on the potty a couple times a day, even if he doesn't need to go, while you read a book or sing a song. Don't make a big deal out of it when he goes in his pants, but do make a big deal out of it when he goes in the potty. My ds loved that he got a sticker for every poop he did in the potty.
HTH and keep us updated on how things are going.

I posted an article about 'Potty training Regression' in the 'Preschool Playtime' folder below...I hope this helps!
