Was wondering what everyone thinks is the right age for a toddler to have an iTouch or similar device?  I let my 3 year son use my phone to play games and watch videos but this has become a problem because now he thinks the phone is his and throws temper tantrums when I take it away from him.  I literally have to hide the phone from him.  This morning, he saw me put the phone in my bag while i was going to work, stared crying for it and I screamed at him that he couldn't have it.  He calls it his phone.  My sister gave her son an iTouch when he was 2 and I thought she was crazy but now I'm rethinking that because I want my phone when I need it without my son throwing a fit.  I want to be able to regulate how much he uses any device but part of me definitely feels like buying a 3 year old any expensive device is crazy.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a solution-I am desperate!  Also, are there any devices that may be a solution that are not expensive that are appropriate for a three year old?

We got my then 9 year a itouch last year and a month later he cracked the screen. It's going to cost over $100 to fix. I don't let my 5 year play with my phone. Its a phone not a toy and DH learned that lesson when he ordered a $9 app on his old phone. Plus we really don't have the funds to replace the phones if something happens to them.

We did get our 5 year a leap pad for xmas last year. Great age appropriate apps and games and even books and hs withstood a fall or two or a dozen. There are other similar products on the market and some come with parent controls so you can limit screen time.
