Our 4,5 yr. old granddaughter is still in diapers and plastic pants 24/7 as she absolutely refuses to pottytrain! We have tried everything possible and nothing works. We have tried treats, rewards, bare bottom, and telling her no more diapers! When she wakes in the morning in her wet double diaper she would be content to stay in it all day! WhenI ormy husband go to change her she throws a tantrum. She has been checked by specialists and is in perfect health. She continues to tell us she does not want to sit on the pottyand go pee pee or poo poo she just wants to stay in her diapers and plastic pants and go potty in them and be a BIG BABY all the time! We are gettin absolutely tired of all our friends and family continue to keep asking us how long is that kid going to stay in diapers and plastic pants 24/7 befoe shegets potty trained. Believe me my husband, I, and her mom and dad are at our wits end. PLEASE HELP!

Hello missmom,welcome to our board.
Ok,at this age,she is telling you she is in charge, and nothing you can do will change her mind.
well,I think we should be able to use my 3 strikes method to change her mind.I have used this for around 40 years and have only had a handfull that it did not work for within a couple of weeks to a month.
Bedwetting can take years to overcome, this is due to very heavy sleepers or small bladder.
Let her know, that from now on,she can have her diapers for night time only, and when she gets up in the morning, she is to try to go potty and then from there to cotton training pants with plastic pants for the rest of the day.
The idea here is that with the lighter cotton trainers and plastic, the pee will have to run down her leggs and not through the crotch area and will be more uncomfortable.
after about a week of this we will go to the 3 strikes if needed.
you will need to be very consistant with her on this,if she starts a tantrum,it will be a time out.
please keep us up-dated on any progess or holdouts.
Blessed Be.

You mentioned that she has a mom and dad, but you also discuss what happens when you and your husband try to change her, and what she tells you but you're not specifically talking about her parents.

Missmom2007: Your post sounds very familiar. I've seen many posts of yours on similar message boards and I just can't fathom why anyone would bother trolling the toilet training boards and for such a long period of time. Your posts are almost identical, the phrases you use, eg "people keep asking me when am I going to get her out of those diapers and plastic pants". It's funny how at first you were a single Dad with this daughter in diapers and plastic pants 24/7 and now you are the grandmother?? I've seen your posts on Babycenter under the name "Rainman krista" and 2 years ago, you were a single dad who had a 6 year old in diapers 24/7, but this year you are a Grandmother with a 4 year old in diapers 24/7, still under the same screen name! Amazing how you have become a woman and your daughter has gotten younger. That's amazing. People on these boards are always willing to help people with GENUINE problems toilet training their children, so please don't waste their time. Also, don't insult my intelligence by telling me you are not the same people/person. I've seen plenty of your posts on other boards and the link to this one very obviously one of yours.
