Just starting with my 2year old. He has been showing interest since before the holidays so now is the time!

I am doing a pants-free day today. Total bare bottom. He is my first and I have no clue! So far is going ok.

After a couple hours and a couple successes with 2 very small accidents on the floor, he asked for diaper change which I didn't do. He played for a bit, had another success then got very insistent about it so I did. He peed in the diaper a bit late then pooped.

He went a few drops in the potty after that. Then he went down for a nap, woke dry then went in the potty. Then he took a bath which at the end of he peed in the bathtub.

My biggest question right now is when he asks for a diaper should I give him one or a pair of underwear or ignore the request? I want no pants day to be fun but I don't want him to have it only be a game.

Thoughts?

No, they are thicker than regular underwear, just not as thick as cloth diapers which is what the plastic pants are designed to go over :) I'd say that they are about half-way between a cloth diaper (properly folded) and ordinary underwear.

Oh. I am picturing that "training pants" are thicker than underwear. Are they the same as underwear?

A note on the the plastic pants, I found the Gerber brand at my local Wal-mart, however when I got him the "right" size it was too big to use over underwear. So instead of 2T-3T I had to get him 18-24 month. The smaller size is almost the exact same size as his underwear, so it will hopefully hold the leaks better :)

Interestingly he seems to understand what the feeling means because without the diapers he had about 2 accidents to about a dozen successes in Tues.
This morning, he wanted to go bare but DH was in charge because I was getting ready for work and he was home for the early part of the day. I did not observe Wednesday, but from what I saw this morning, he is not being as patient as necessary to get those successes. The problem with saying anything to him is that he doesn't take it as well because in his mind he is being really patient and catering to what DS wants / needs for the potty.
I will look into the training pants and plastic covers for daycare.

Ugh. Potty training and expecting - can't be a fun combo.
well I figured we wouldstick with the mostly pants free or maybe just underwear whenever he is game at home. While it will be nice mot to buy diapers, I am not in a hurry for him to grow up. Don't even know if we are going to have any more. So I treasure every stage.

My DS is kinda the same way, where he's been showing interest since he was less than 18 months. But when I tried to start it last time, he had no clue what his body was doing. So we were gonna wait till about now to try, but now we are waiting until Mommy doesn't have morning sickness anymore, lol. I don't know how its gonna go with mine either, but gotta say, just keep trying. My personal thing would be to decide on a way your gonna teach him and stick with it for a month or two at least before deciding its not gonna work. I feel that so many of us mom's give up on a plan when it doesn't work as quickly as we think it should and maybe we end up confusing our kids all the more. IDK, I guess I should get off my soap box now, lol. GL with your little man.

So yesterday was supposed to be another pants-free day but when I removed his very wet nighttime diaper, he said "diaper, pants". When I asked if he wanted to sit on the potty he said no sit potty. So I put in the diaper and pants. DH was with him all day and he was mostly in diapers. He would ask to sit on the potty but I think it was after he had already gone in his diaper. DH tried pull ups with underwear inside but he did the same thing with that as with a diaper.
Today he is at daycare and she has all carpet in an apartment so she can't do completely pants free and I think he is not getting idea enough to just do pull ups. She will have him sit on the potty but so far he only peed for her in the potty one of the many times she put him there.

Since he pooped in the diaper, I would got with giving him one when he asks as long as he poops in it shortly after putting it on like he did today. He may be scared to poop on the toilet as of yet and you wouldn't want to push yourself back insisting he do something he isn't ready to do yet. One of my SIL's friends was in a similar situation where her DS hadn't pooped for a couple days because he hadn't been in a diaper. The friend put him in one and about 5 min later he had gone and was much more comfortable.
