Hi

I occasionally read the messages but this is my first time writting here.

My question is My son is 2 years and 4 months and I have started toilet trainning him. It's been 4 weeks so far he has accedents but not much. My problem is that he doesn't tell me that he needs to go I have to take him to the toilet every 1 hour and then he will do the pee but he doesn't tell me that he needs to go even though he knows that he needs to go but he just won't tell also with the poo he doesn't tell but if I put him on the the potty then he will do it. He has more poo accedents then pee.

I am not sure how do I make him tell me. Do I still continue this process. I am full time working so he goes to day care 3 days a week and 2 days to MIL and he is same with

mum_sammy, Hi and welcome to the Toilet teaching board.

For a child to tell you that they need to go potty, is sometimes one of the step in the process. What you may want to try is giving your DS a watch with an alarm, so when it goes of it reminds him to use the potty. There are many potty training watches for children now. Continue what you are doing when you are with him. I hope that helps. Please keep us updated on your DS progress.

Hi

Update from me

DS is doing well with the toilet trainning he has started telling me when he needs to pee and stays dry more then 2 to 3 hrs. At night time he stays dry most of the days but I haven't started night time trainning yet.

My concern is he still doesn't do poo in the toilet and won't tell me when he needs to go for poo.

He does it in his pants now I am not sure how I should make him go for poo. He is not scared or anything I think he still didn't got the idea of doing poo in the toilet.

Please advise

Thank you for the update on your DS progress.

As for night time training there is limited things you can do, as the body needs to produce a hormone to concentrate the urine.

As for your DS not pooing in the potty here are a few suggestions. Does he poo on a regular basis around the same times each day? If so it will be easier to try to get him to the potty in time. Another would be to watch him closely and look for the signs that he needs to poo, change in facial expressions, movements, hiding once you find out he signs you will know when to get him to the potty. Another suggestion is to have your DS ask for a diaper when he needs to poo, and tell him that he needs to go into the bathroom to poo, as soon as he is finished he should help you clean up and then get back into his underwear. If that works slowly transition your DS to sit on the potty with the diaper on, then cutting a hole in the middle/back, to no diaper at all. I hope that helps. Please keep us updated on your DS progress.

Thanks for the suggestion much appreciated

That's what I do watch his expressions and sometimes I am lucky to get him sit on the potty just on time and sometimes I miss his expression.

Yesterday he told my MIL that he needs to do poo so that was good maybe I should be patient and he will learn slowly.

He is kind of regular with the time but not always so I do watch his expressions during that time.

Will keep you updated.
