Getting Started!

Hiya Ladies! I am new here! I have a 2 1/2 year old little boy who I am ready to start Potty Training. I am off for two days, so I thought that would be a good time to start since I have 2 full days with him. I am also planning to go straight to underwear, so no more diapers. I am pretty sure he is ready, so I think it should all go well. We do not have anything new or exciting coming up anytime soon, so I am not expecting anything to upset this.

So now for my questions. Someone on my PG mentioned using the 3 day method. Has anyone used this before? This is the website she linked me for it.

So has anyone used this with success or know anyone who did? Does it really work in 3 days? If so this would be GREAT! I need something to work fast as my MIL will not help us & if we do not get him trained before he goes to her house again she will put him back into diapers which I am afraid will mess him up. He only goes there maybe one day a week for a few hours, so IF it does not work in 3 days I might be able to work with my work to only work opposite of DH untill he is fully trained so no diapers.

Another thought is that I really do not want to use pull-ups as I feel he will just think they're diapers & use them as such. Also DH will also be off & home on Monday, so he can show him the fun things like peeing outside & all. I am open to any & ALL tips! Feel free to share them! Thanks SO much!

Krista, Hi and welcome to the Toilet Teaching board.

I personally have not used the three day method. Every child is different and there is more then one way to potty train a child. My suggestion is to start with which ever method you want and if after three days you do not see progress, stop and take a break to reevaluate different methods. If you check in the folder below there are tips for boys and many other tips that may be helpful. For your MIL, I would suggest talking to her and ask if you get him successfully started would she consider following what you are doing so that your DS does not get confused. I hope that helps. Please keep us updated on your DS progress.

hello Krista.

I have heard of a few times when this works,but normally,they will soon regress,not all,but a few.

I always suggest just getting rid of the diapers or pull-ups and use them just for nap and night time only, buy a number of pairs of thicker cloth training pants and a separate dozen pair of plastic pants for use during the day,set the kitchen timer for every hour to start and have a race with him to the potty.( will always win).

Please do not have hubby start teaching him to pee standing until he is poop trained as this will retard training.

I hope this gives you something to start with,Please keep us up-dated on what you try and his responses.

Many Blessings.
