Is he not ready or not willing?

My little boy, Spencer, turned three in May. He is still wearing diapers full time.

I did put him in underwear on two separate occasions (two potty training attempts). However, he honestly didn't seem to recognize when he had to 'go'. So, I've just been holding off on it.

I've been waiting for some sort of sign that he's 'ready' but I'm getting tired of waiting!

If I ask him if he'd like to pee in his potty or wear big boy underwear, he just tells me, "No. I'll pee in my diaper."

So, my question is this . . . Do you think there will ever be a time when he, somehow, indicates that he is indeed ready to be potty trained?

Hello Lori-Ann.

He already has shown he knows what he is doing,by telling you he is happy using his diapers.Initiating ( telling you ) is the last step in the training.

at his age,he has figured out that using his diapers does not take time away from play, mom will change me when I am ready to stop playing.

You can start by letting him run around the house naked for a few hours each day, this will let him see just what is happening when he gets those feelings.

The next time you go to the store with him, have him help you pick up some thicker cloth training pants and about a half dozen pair of plastic pants to put on over them, while he may still need the diapers for over night use, that is the only time he should be allowed to have them, even when going out.

I hope this helps get you started, please feel free to ask anything else you need help with.

Many Blessings.
