Hi! My intro and a question.

My name is Stephanie and I have a 28 month old little boy.
A couple weeks ago, he went on the potty 2 times a day for about 4 days. He's used the big potty with his seat and the little potty.
After that, he showed no interest. Now, he's starting to show some interest again.
Basically when I go in the bathroom, I ask him if he wants to go to, and if he does, great, if not no big deal. I'll also ask him during the day if he wants to go. Sometimes when we are out he'll say "mommy go bathroom?" I'll take him in, but there's no way he'll get on the public potty yet. He also gets really shy and tries to distract me after he's pooped.

Should I start a routine and ask him if he wants to go before naps/bedtime etc?

Any advice is appreciated!

Hi, Stephanie

It sounds like your son is showing some great signs of readiness.

It sounds like he is at the age where he has found out, that he does not have to stop playing to go to the potty.

You could start setting the kitchen timer for about every hour to start with and adjust as you find out his timing, let him know, when it goes off,he is to run to the potty and sit for 5 minutes or unless he produces sooner.

He may also only need you to help with his clothing at first, then want privacy to actually go, this is possible with you just outside the door.

One of the best places to start is to let him know, diapers and pull-ups are for night time and naps only, thicker cloth training pants with plastic pants during the day and when going out only.

As for the public washrooms, most of the problems here is the accoustics as well as the self flushers.

You can't really do anything about the noise, but if you have a couple of band-aids,place one over the sensor to stop the toilet from flushing as soon as he gets up,just remove it when he is out of earshot.

Please see how these work and let us know how he reacts.

Many Blessings.
