We have begun trying to potty train Chris.
Ok,first off,do not teach him to stand to pee until he learns to poop, once he pee's standing it will be twice as hard to get him to sit to poop.
One of the best systems for letting him find out what is happening when he gets those feelings,is to let him run around the house naked for a few hours each day, right after his morning clean-up,let him stay naked and keep an eagle eye on him, when you see him getting ready to go,get him up and on the potty quick, even if he only gets a bit in the pot, will be great.
As he is wearing underpants, does he wear plastic pants over them?I have always used the separate pairs as I can use them for any diapers, trainers or regular underpants until he is fully trained.
I hope some of this helps, please keep us up-dated on what you try and his responses.
Vicki, Hi and welcome to the Toilet Teaching board.
I just had to laugh when you said about the trees in Lowes/Home Depot. I can so see one of my boys doing that. They don't seem to care where they are or who will see them if the pee on a tree. Thank you for the laugh. I agree with the previous poster about having him learn sitting down to pee at first, and not only to avoid all the aim issues.
I would start your timer out between 20-25 minutes, and move it up five minutes until you find your DS magic minutes between needing to go. I don't recommend sitting your DS on the potty after the fact, but I do suggest have your DS help clean up after an accident. He can take his clothes off and put them in the hamper/washer/where ever you want them to go. I hope that helps. Please keep us updated on your DS progress.
Thanks for the suggestions.
