Hello Everyone,

I am new to your board but was wondering around what age to start potty training?

hello Anne Marie.

A lot depends on you son,18 months is a good time to start looking for signs he is ready, interest in the potty, feeling wet and wanting his diaper changed, these are a couple to look for, there are others that Christena listed as well.

I normally find if using disposable diapers,it takes longer for them to catch on to the feelings of needing to go,and it can take a year or more to get started.

I would start out with the naked method first off,let him run around the house for a few hours each day, then buy some thicker cloth training pants( I prefer separate training pants with plastic pants over all-in-ones)and about a dozen pair of plastic pants, continue with pull-ups if you wish for night and nap times only, let him know this will be the only time he can have these.

later, after he gets better at understanding this way,we will go for prizes or awards for going as well as the timer method.

Please keep us up-dated on what you try and his responses.

Many Blessings.

Anne Marie, Hi and welcome to the Toilet Teaching board.

There is no set age to start potty training as each child is different. I would suggest waited until your DS starts to show interest and then follow his lead to make sure that he is ready. Studies have shown that if a child is pushed to be potty trained and is not ready it can cause problems down the road with using the potty.

Many children start showing signs between 15-20 months, and many times it is a very short lived interest, and then start showing signs again between 22-30 months. I hope that helps. Please keep us updated on your DS progress.
