Never tells me when she needs to go

My 2.5 year old daughter has no problem peeing on the potty, and she's even pooed in the potty a few times, but I have to tell her that it's time to use the potty. She never tells me when she needs to go, and even when I ask her, she'll reply no. Today she even peed in her panties about 1 minute after I asked her if she needs to go.

Any thoughts on how to get her to tell me when she needs to use the potty? She knows what to do, what to say and when - she practices with her potty doll all the time.

I've tried not bugging her about it and letting her tell me in her own time, but that has just resulted in accidents. She doesn't seem to mind the feeling of wet panties (she pulls off dirty ones). She doesn't tell me when she's had an accident either; it's like she thinks that if she doesn't mention it, it will go away. LOL

We've been actively potty training for several weeks. She wears panties around the house and our neighborhood, and pull-ups when we go out. She can stay dry for long periods of time (sometimes overnight), and she's excited when she uses the potty.

Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks! :)

Hello shylarkd.

Initiating is normally the last step in the training process and at her age,it is quite common for the "no" to be the only answer you will usually get.

You might start off with the kitchen timer, set it for two hours and tell her, when it goes off,she must go to the potty and sit for 5 minutes,( unless she goes in less time ),if she does not produce in the 5 minutes, set the timer for 1/2 the time (1 hour ).

You may also try the naked method around the house for a few hours each day, this will let her get used to seeing what is happening when she gets those feeling of needing to go.

As she is starting to go without the pull-ups (GREAT ) they are what can cause the biggest problem in training.

buy about three or four pair of plastic panties and put them on over her regular panties when you go out,and if the accidents continue at home, have her wear the plastic panties ( with regular) there as well, the idea is that the plastic panties will keep the wetness in her panties and be as uncomfortable as when she poops in them.

Please keep us up-dated on what you try and her responses.

Many Blessings.
