New here just getting serious

Hi I have an almost 2 1/2 yr old. She has sat on the potty and peed in it maybe dozen times over the last few months. Basically if we get lucky and she has to go when we put her on it. She will tell us when she needs a new diaper and whether it's wet or poopy. She usually wets mid morning, during nap (& poops then too), then very inconsistent with the wets until bedtime.

We had been giving her M&Ms when she went on the potty. 2 days ago she said she didn't want to sit on the potty. When I asked her, don't you like M&Ms she said no. I asked "what do you like" her response, "I like diapers" It was all I could do not to laugh.

I am a sahm, dd's activities have mostly ended for the summer. I put her in underwear this morning. She sat on the potty but nothing, and she ended up wetting herself twice. I didn't get mad just put on clean pants.

I have a cold right now so I am planning on being home most of this week, so now is the time to get serious.

Any advice? Anything I am missing or doing wrong. Any comments welcomed.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. We started this morning!!!

Dh put her in a diaper after she woke up. But I took it off after she had breakfast (dh let me sleep in since I'm under the weather). She was without bottoms all morning. I was beginning to worry, the diaper was dry when I took it off at 9 (she woke at 8) and she hadn't done anything by 11:00. I broke down and put her on the potty and read to her, hoping she would go no luck. She had pretzels and some pedialyte (left over from a few weeks ago-individual dry mix packets) she totally chugs pedialyte, we usually only have water or milk in our house.

Little after 11:15 she went a little bit. Then during lunch just after noon she was sitting in her seat (with a towel under her) and said "wet now" I had been checking the towel while she was eating asking if it was wet, b/c I knew her bladder must be really full. When she said, wet now, I put her right on the potty (literally 2 ft away) and she went, a lot!!! And it turns out the towel wasn't wet, she just knew she had to go. Yea, she is getting the connection.

Hoping we can reinforce this for the next few days, then maybe try underwear when we are out and about next week (might put plastic covers over them just in case and take a few extra changes of bottoms). I'm still a little worried at the holding it for so long to avoid using the potty. When she went a little it was on the big toilet with the insert. The "during lunch" time was on a little potty here in the kitchen. So I guess I have to figure out if maybe she likes the big toilet better than the potty.

I still have to read the e-book, didn't want to delay getting started as I knew she was ready.

I was so worried that she would hold it until she had her diaper on for nap. I'm still a little concerned that now she knows she'll have diapers on at nap that tomorrow she will hold it.
