Poop issues

Hello Wise People!

Please please help me!  You may recall I have posted before.  DS is now 26 months old.  He's been in cloth diaps his whole life and has been sporadically using the potty for about 7 months now.  I swear we have done everything we can to make it easy and fun and not put pressure on him, but this has clearly turned into a toddler control game to some extent (take a look at the Holiday thread for a recap of our last adventure having dinner at a friend's house).

DS's daycare provider called me this afternoon and reported that they are now having problems several days a week because DS's poop ends up on the floor.  They thought it might be falling out of his diapers because some of the diapers are saggy and the elastic is getting old, but today one of the teacher's saw him reach in and pull the poop out of his diaper and then drop it on the floor.  I have seen him do this too.  He actually did it once at home and then walked up and handed me the poop.  He doesn't play with it or smear it around (thank goodness).  But it's not sanitary or safe for him to be dropping his business on the floor of the classroom at school where other children play.  Not to mention, this is just gross.

Any suggestions??  I'm totally out of my league.

Was browsing the boards and saw your post. Can you dress him in clothes were he can't access his diapers? It also makes me think you might have to really go all out with the potty training, sounds like he doesn't like it in his diaper which could be a sign he's ready. I would also tell him "no" sternly and say that he should be going in the potty.

The clothes are not really an options since he is in the process of potty training....so pretty much all the pants we have are intended to be easy to get off.

We are trying to push through with the potty this weekend and he is doing really well!!  He used the toilet most of the day yesterday except for naptime and when we went to Lowe's.  And he did great.  Only had 1 accident and it was just before bedtime, so he was tired and about to get changed.

Today he has mostly been in diapers, but we were running around all morning.  I am going to talk to the teacher at daycare about it again this week because I think part of this is also him working on his talking and communicating that he is uncomfortable and needs help getting cleaned up.

Thanks for the good words!!!

Hi akhtarsa,it looks to me like he may have some form of getting his message through properly and this is frustrating him,so he is using this as a way of getting attention, and of couse, the poop is much more uncomfortable than just being in wet diapers.

The training does seem to be much better,if he keeps dry most of the days and is now only having one or two accidents a day,I would go right to the trainers every day and use diapers only at bed time.

Bst wishes.
