Hello Pam.

16 month is a bit young, the normal is 18 months to 2 1/2 years, but every child is different,so if he is showing signs of understanding what to do,it does no harm to try, just be a bit slower.

As for having two in diapers, why not go to cloth diapers with plastic pants?much cheaper and can be handed down and used for the next one.they will also help with the training.

first thing, start with the naked method, allow him to run around the house for a couple of hours each morning, and put him in thicker cloth training pants for the rest of the day and tell him the diapers or pull-ups are for night time and naps only.

Set the kitchen timer for every hour to start and race him to the potty when it goes off,do not have him sit for more than 5 minutes at a time,if he feels he needs to get back on after just a few minutes, fine, but again, only 5 minutes is usually enough.

disposable diapers and pull-ups keep wetness away from the child so why bother, and mom is going to change me shortly anyhow.

I hope this will help you get started.

Please keep us up-dated on what you try and his responses, and if you have any other questions unanswered so far, please ask.

Many Blessings.
