I am so glad I found this board! My playgroup is effectively dead and I didn't know where to ask these questions. :) Just looking for any suggestions that anyone might have. TIA!
So, my DD is 20 months old. I know that this is young to start using the potty but there are a lot of reasons I think it might be time. For one, I really need her to be out of diapers! For the good of my carpet! She takes her diaper off all the time. She can pick it open through clothes so keeping pants on her doesn't always help. We CD and use snap diapers at night but I have a limited supply of these and have to use velcro during the day.
She will crouch and put her knees together when she is peeing and becomes very still when pooping. I bought her a potty and she will sit on it for all of 5 seconds before running off. The new thing in the past two days is that she will pee on the floor less than a minute after being put on the toilet.
I'm not sure what to do. She isn't a very verbal kid so it is hard to communicate with her, though she is at the point where she understands most of what we say. And she will say "uh oh" sometimes when she pees. She is too young to try the techniques you find online. No sticker chart is going to help here. I feel pretty confident that if I can get her to pee on the pot once, she will get the hang of it.
Any suggestions how to help her? Any ideas on how to get her to sit on the potty longer? Where do I go from here?
