What is going on?

My twenty-six month old had been fully day-trained for eight weeks -- no accidents. She tells us when she needs to go and will use public restrooms,no problem. She wears training pants usually and a pull
up for nap and night, but she hasn't wet during a nap. She occassionally wakes up
dry in the morning. Last week she had a fever and had two pee accidents that day. The next day no
accidents. Well, the past three days she pees in her pants most of the time. She's feeling fine. Is this for attention? I just don't get how she can go from no accidents to no peeing on the potty at all. She still poops on the potty every time. What do I do? Thanks!

Hello Y.

You mentioned training pants, are they the all-in-ones,or just cloth?

And by the sounds of it,she is getting very good at nap and night time as well.

The fever may have let her know that going to the potty takes away time from play and mom will just change me when she finds out,no need to stop playing.this is normal for her age.

As she is getting so good at nap and nighttime,I would have her just wear the training pants with plastic panties over them, right now,at all times.Let her know, that she can stop wearing the plastic panties when she starts using the potty all the time.

This is not a punishment,it will help save on the furniture and her clothing.

I hope this helps some,if you need anything else, please ask.

Many Blessings.

Y, Hi and welcome to the Toilet Teaching board.

It sounds as though your DD is going through a regression stage, which is very common. The best thing to do is to keep reinforcing that your DD needs to use the potty. Have her help clean up any accidents, rinsing out her clothes, and putting them in the hamper/washer and getting dressed again. Please keep us updated on your DD progress.
