Won't poop on potty.

My DS will be 3 in May. He has been pee trained since before Christmas. He wears underwear all day and requests to go pee. He WILL NOT poop on the potty. He will hold it until he gets his nighttime diaper. OR he will request a diaper. I have tried putting him on the potty when he requests a diaper, I have tried bribes, I have tried begging. He will not poop on the potty.
The weird thing is he did originally back in December/November when we started potty training. Then he got a stomach bug in January which gave him diarrhea and after that has refused to go in tbe potty again. I don't know what to do. I don't want to force him and cause harm but at the same time he is almost three and I really hate changing his poopy diapers. Should I back off or just flat out refuse a diaper, is there anything else I can offer or techniques I haven't tried?

rose1821, Hi and welcome to the Toilet Teaching board.

My suggestion is to continue to allow your DS to as for a diaper to poop. Next time he asks for a diaper to go poop, tell me he must go into the bathroom, he can stand, sit, whatever he would like. Remove the diaper immediately when he is done. After a week or so, have your DS sit on the potty with the diaper on, and after another week or so, try cutting a hole in the back/middle of the diaper, so when he sits on the potty to poop most of will fall through. Then in another week or so have your DS try without a diaper. If he still struggles, try putting a belt or something around his waist. This will help relax the muscles that he needs to use. I hope that helps. Please keep us updated on your DS progress.

misstort6, Hi and welcome to the Toilet Teaching board.

If you just have your DD ask for a diaper/pull up when she needs to poop. Have her stay in the bathroom until she is done. Have her help clean up when she is done. That is my suggestion.
