2 year old that is not gaining weight

My two year old little girl is not gaining weight. As far as the growth charts go, I can't remember when she was even close to it for her weight. She weighs 19.6 lbs and 32 in tall. The doctor has had her on pediasure since she turned 1 and it doesn't seem to help with adding weight. For liquids that is all she is to drink, and we are to get her to try to eat as much as she will. She is not a good eater at all! She will eat a couple of bites for lunch then a couple for dinner and that is about it. Breakfast is her best time. She loves pancakes and eggs. If she doesn't eat much for dinner we try to give her a spoonful of peanut butter to at least get some protein in her. She loves fruits and vegetables, anything with not much calories! The doc has done bloodwork which has come back all normal. She is hardly ever sick, a couple of sinus infections and that's it. Mentally she is right on track where she should be. She was delivered at 38 weeks weighing 7 lb 2 oz. Anyone have any ideas how to get her to gain weight?

Hello and welcome to the board!

I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to watch your daughter not gain weight.

When my son turned 2 we started down the nutritionist path for the same reason. My son seems to only eat when truly hungry. We found out that insurance wouldn't cover our consult , so we never saw the nutritionist, but here is what we did. 1. made sure not to offer snacks in between meals. My boy's stomach is tiny and even a bite of a cookie will fill him up 2. Is your daughter pooping/peeing a normal amount? For us, DS doesn't poop, so until we dealt (we still are dealing with it) the constipation, he didn't want to eat food 3. made sure each bite of food that i put into DS's mouth counted...we started doing more proteins, and focusing more on high energy foods (and less on carbs) 4. cut down/out the milk for a while so that he wouldn't fill up on that Anyway, DS is still small, but he is on the growth chart and he actually is growing well now that he is pooping well. He's up to 28 pounds and is 3 1/4 yo. GL!

Sounds like my daughter. We even saw the nutritionist a few times and is drinking Pediasure and still it doesn't work. She eats so little and poops so much. Weighing 23 lbs. She'll be 3 in Nov.

Hi Mary,

This may be way out there, so if it is, just ignore me.
