At what age should I start teaching my daughter to write her name? Should I start with writting all abcs or her name first?

Hi there!

I did a little searching around to see what was recommended- name or alphabet first- and found a great article you might find helpful.

Early Writing Activities- http://www.ehow.com/list_6526284_early-writing-activities-abcs.html

In the article it suggests learning letters first by tracing them and lots of practice. I really think that's a great way to get the fundamentals of writing down.

How old is your daughter?

We taught Joe to write his name in his 2s, but we haven't practiced and he no longer can. When he was just over 3, we started working on letters and he can reliably write about 1/2 the alphabet. Some letters he still gets backwards like a P/B, but he is getting there. I think it all depends on the kid. If your kid is willing to sit and practice letters, than it is time to start! If your kid is unwilling, try using a dry erase mat, chalk on the driveway, or some tool that you don't normally use to color with to practice. That is how I convinced joe to start practicing.

My DD is 3.5 and she recent taught herself to write her name. We sometimes play with tracing letters, and she already knew how to spell her name (it's on the wall of her
