Oh, Landon HATES having his nails clipped. It is a literal wrestling match to get him to sit still while I take care of them.

How old is Landon? If he likes to dig and play in the dirt, you could tell him that he needs them clipped so he doesn't scratch the worms, or get ants up under his nails...or something like that! See, its easier to have girls...I just tell the girls we can paint their nails but need to clip them first, and it works wonders!

Landon is 2.5. I think it must be easier with girls because he just doesn't care if he has dirt and junk under his nails! The biggest problem we have is that he has really sensitive skin so he'll scratch until he bleeds if he has longer nails. I'll totally have to try the digging idea- I'll tell you if it works! :)

My son was the same way at first, and he also has eczema and would scratch himself raw.

I just had a major "DUH" moment when I read your post. I've never thought to show him me clipping my own nails. I'll have to try that for sure! Thanks!

Oh, wow! I have not been able to do that since my son was an infant. He'd wake in an instant!

I have my 3 YO DD watch TV while I cut her nails. It's the only thing that keeps her distracted enough to sit still. I have her sit on my lap on the couch (and I do my best to catch the clippings!). We've been doing that since she was tiny - nothing else seemed to work for us.

UGH! That sounds like no fun at all. I've had to have my DH hold Landon in his lap while I cut too. It is so much easier than having to wrestle them and cut nails at the same time. I'm glad your son is doing better with it now. Hopefully that continues!

Hi Liesl,

It's good to see you here! Distraction is a very powerful tool! Perhaps I should turn on Blues Clues before I try cutting nails to see if it helps. Thanks for the tip!
