Biting Herself?

My 3 YO DD bit herself on the arm yesterday hard enough to leave a mark for several hours (no broken skin, though). This is the first time she's done something like that. She did it while hiding from me playing hide and seek. When I "found" her she said something bit her and she showed me her arm with a perfect little impression of nearly all her teeth. When I asked her why she did it she denied doing it (another new issue). It had to be her because she's the only kid in the house. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm hoping it's a one time thing and not the start of something new...

Oh, ouch! I've never dealt with this but my first thought is that she did it out of nervousness/anxiety. I don't mean in a bad way, but since she was hiding, maybe it was just that she was caught up in the game and bit herself while she was a bit jittery? Do you think that is possible? Hopefully this was just a one time thing and it won't happen again!

Hmmm. I never thought about the anxiety aspect. We play hide and seek a lot, and she "hides" in her bed most of the time waiting for me to sit on the bed and "find" her. So I'd think she would be comfortable with it, but maybe she just got carried away. Or maybe she just wondered what it would feel like. She hasn't done it since and I'm hoping it was a one time thing.
