Landon really really wants to dress himself. He's fine at pulling his pants on and off but he really struggles with his shirts. I 'm not sure how to help him other than just to let him continue to practice.

Nadia just figured this out - like two weeks ago. She's been able to put on and take off pants for probably a year (she's 3 and 4 months), but shirts just baffled her. One day she just figured it out. I had been trying to teach her how to do it, but once the motion clicked for her, she got

Well, I'm glad to hear that Landon isn't the only one struggling with this skill. He just gets so darn tangled up in his shirt when he tries! Sounds like he'll figure it out in time and with a lot of practice! I'm glad to hear Nadia has mastered the skill!

Cavan (3.5) can pull his pants up and down (though not very efficiently) and he can sometimes pull a shirt off, but he is really resistant to it.

He's just not interested in doing it himself and wants me to do it, but even when I'm trying to get him dressed he flops, runs, wiggles, and is just a royal pain in the butt.

I think he could do better if he were willing to practice, but he says, "I need a helper" and then will act all goofy (ie, trying to put his shirt on his feet) until I give up and put his clothes on for him.

It sure is tough when they don't want to do it for themselves! My middle guy was the same way and it just got crazy. Eventually, when he was much older, I just told him that he had no choice but to do it for himself and that I would no longer be doing it for him. Amazing how a little tough love can inspire them to learn! ;0)

I'd say that Rachael started dressing herself around when she turned 3 (she's 3 and 4 months old).

I'm just going to jump right in here. ;0)

Madison turned 2 a month ago. She can put on and take off her underwear, pants and skirts (and pull up) just fine. She still occasionally gets both legs into one hole, but not as often anymore. She is working on shirts, she can put on unbuttoned ones fine, just needs me to button them, and over the head ones, its a struggle here and there getting the arms in the right holes. I'd say she's at about 50/50 getting it on herselt without any help. She's awesome and socks and shoes. Her teacher at daycare got tired of her taking off her shoes all the time, she she began making her put them back on herself and she is a champ at them now.

Independence is such a fun thing, isn't it? I'm totally laughing about your laundry pile but I can imagine it is frustrating when you are the one doing the laundry!

Wow, Tracy! Madison is doing so good with dressing! Does she ask to pick out her own clothes yet?

Not usually yet, but she will veto things on occasion. I have started letting her pick out her pj's. Usually to facilitate an easier morning i have the clothes for both girls picked out and set out (hung up accordingly) for the week. The 4 year old will voice her opinion more often about clothes, but still not a lot. She doesn't really care what she wears most of the time as long as its comfortable. And Madison, the 2 year old, since we're just about fully potty trained now, I try and stick to dresses, skirts and easy things so she doesn't struggle when trying to make it to the bathroom on her own at daycare.
