Hi!

I have a three year old who loves her pacifier. I thought we were moving in the right direction for weaning when we were talking about the pacifier fairy coming and leaving her a big girl present for her pacifiers. That all the new babies needed her pacifiers etc....the night we talked about it she went to bed w/o it but in the middle of the night when she woke up (normally it's near her and she finds it and puts it back in her mouth then back to sleep) and cried and was inconsolable ...i tried to not give it to her but she's loud and her 2 year old brother sleeps in the same room. She woke him up and then i had two problems so i gave it to her. I need to just take it and be done and she'll probably be fine in a few days but I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and it worked out?

My two oldest boys were the same way and we had to go cold turkey with them. We tossed them away and didn't look back. There were a few rough nights, but it didn't last long at all. I've also heard of some people cutting the tip of the pacifier off little by little each day until there is only a little nub left. Usually at that point they want nothing to do with it. Wishing you luck- it can be so hard (on everyone!).

We tried the binky fairy, and it didn't work. We then tried using our Elf on the Shelf at Christmas time and he had to bring them all back to Santa to give to other babies. We let her keep one of them, but when it was lost, it was gone for good. I guess from chewing on them, it started to get a tear in it, and one day, she just bit it off! That was it and since she did it, she couldn't get mad. She just accepted it. I guess she was a little over 3 years old! Good luck!

Thanks I like the cutting away idea and will try that before the pacifier fairy idea. I appreciate the tip! :)

I think that once it's not comfortable in her mouth anymore (if its ripped or cut) that might do the trick! Thanks for the tip!
