I'm going to do the chart with Logan tonight. Sounds like fun. We read a lot of books, so I think he'll enjoy putting stickers on a chart to track it :)

Is anyone else doing this?

Day 4 Assignment: Get Started on Your Child's Reading List

What better way to start reading than to read the books selected from your school’s reading list? These books are chosen because of how age appropriate they are and they usually will coincide with the next year’s school curriculum.

DAY 5 ASSIGNMENT: KNOW WHAT BOOK IS RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD

How do I choose a book for my child? It can seem daunting. Starting with books that you liked as a child is a great jumping off point. It will definitely spark some discussion about the book since you have read it, too! There are also an abundance of new books out there that your child will enjoy discovering. Here are some tips for choosing a book your child will love:
Assess your child’s reading level and make sure you choose a book that is appropriate. It has been said that it is better for a child to read 10 easier books than 1 harder book. If a book is too hard children can lose a lot of comprehension of the story.
Think about what your child is interested in. If your first grader loves dogs, check out a book from the MARTHA SPEAKS series. Or if your preschooler likes plants and flowers, consider reading a nature-related book such as Blueberries for Sal.
If your child is old enough to read on his own, challenge him with read-to-self books, but also select other books that you can read aloud together.
Check out the PBS Parents Bookfinder by clicking on the link below.
Don’t forget to check in on the Challenge message board to get children’s book recommendations from other participants and ask me your questions.

Day 8 Assignment: Talk About the Books Your Child Is Reading

At the dinner table ask your child to tell you what books he is reading and tell him about the books you are reading, or talk about a favorite book.

Chatting with your child at the dinner table doesn’t just make meal time fun, it helps your child develop intellectually.
