Have you taken your kiddos to the pumpkin patch yet?  If so, share your thoughts and experiences here.  Your pictures too!

Thanks, Lisa!  He was so excited to be on a hay ride.  He thought that only Caillou got to do such fun things! :)

How cute!! They do grow them down here, but for whatever reason, you just don't go into the field. Or the local churches will bring them in and have a huge display of them for you to pick from. I grew up always going to the pumpkin farms and doing hay rides and picking pumpkins, so it seems odd to me not to do that. My birthday is a week before Halloween, and it was always a toss up living in Michigan, whether there would be snow on my birthday or not, and during the annual school field trip to the pumpkin patch! My grandfather would always drive up for my birthday and stop at a local place where they sold pumpkins already painted with these amazing face designs. He'd pick one up for all the kids, and pick special ones out for each of us. It is such a wonderful memory I have!

How interesting, Tracy!  I'm trying hard to imagine a pumpkin patch where they just set them in an open field! I'm guessing that they don't grow in Texas and they have to have them shipped in?

My husband and I were talking about how things have changed since we were young.  We'd pick up a pumpkin at the supermarket! Now they make a huge business out of the pumpkin patches.  This year we went on a hayride, picked pumpkins from the 20 acres of pumpkin patches (huge!), rode on ponies, did the corn maze, jump houses, petting zoo, mechanical bull, train ride, bonfire, sandbox using corn, etc.  We were there for over 3 hours!

I'll share a few pics:

We went 2 weekends ago when my parents were down from Michigan.  Its a much different experience than I had growing up.  There aren't a ton of places to go around here in Central Texas, and you don't get to go into the patch to pick pumpkins.  They bring them in and set them around an open field and you just pick one.  We did have a really good time and it had cooled off, so it actually felt like fall weather, unlike 3 years ago when it was in the 90's!  No hay ride, but they did have a huge corn maze we went through.  I'd post pictures, but I don't have them where I can do it on the new boards yet, so it'll have to wait.
