The summer Olympics start this coming Friday!  Will you be watching?  What are your favorite events to watch?

Thanks, Tracy! I'll keep an eye out. :smileyhappy:

Was she disappointed with Jordyn Wieber's performance this past weekend?

She wasn't disappointed at all! I think she was more disappointed, as everyone is, that they can only take the 2 highest, the point difference was so small, and in the grand scheme of things she is still one of the top ten and will have scored as the top in the all around, but doesn't get to compete for a medal. Jordyn is very disciplined about not looking at the internet ahead of time to find out results, and she DVR's everything. I had already read the article on what happened, but I sat and watched it with her last night when she got home, and maybe I am just getting old, or I know how hard those athletes work to get where they are, but I teared up when she didn't make it and they showed her crying on TV! She was so poised in the interview at the end, but gosh, all I kept thinking was leave the poor girl alone and let her go to the locker room, why really subject her to having to listen to the other girls about how great it was to make it, and then intervew her about such a disappointment. I think we also forget, these girls are still teenagers, and having to deal with all that emotion. (Off my soapbox now)

I totally agree with you regarding all of this. I can't imagine the pressure these young girls are under!

Can I vent my frustration with the Olympics? I'm tired of turning on my computer and seeing the results flash across the page long before the event has even aired here. Frustrating! If only they gave a little spoiler alert...

LOL! Jordyn has complained about that incessantly! I said, yahoo, or whatever browser you use, should have a tool on there that you can select and have it stay in place the entire time the Olympics is going that masks all Olympic results unless you specifically ask for it. Jordyn does everything she can to avoid all results until she gets home at night and can watch the coverage on DVR. If anyone starts talking about it at work (she works at a cheer gym), she covers her ears and starts singing. LOL!

I went into teh kitchen a bit ago to warm up something and a lady in there says "you're daughter watches the olympics right?" and I said yes, and she says oh did you see the women's gymnastics team xxxxxx (won't spoil it for you since I have now been spoiled...). I just smiled and said no, she works during the day, she'll watch the coverage tonight of it. sigh... Apparently not everyone likes to make sure you do or don't want to be spoiled. I just HATE staying up so darned late to watch it, I was up til 11 last night watching the men's gymanstics even though we weren't even in medal contention! I can do that on a random night, but every night, no way!

I was up way too late watching last night too... however... I already knew what happened due to all the news spoilers! Ack! It really is annoying, but what can you do? It's the news and they want to be first to break the story. Too bad we can't watch it when it is live!
